back to beginning/middle/end

This web site operates in conjunction with my work at “Outdoor”, an open-air exhibition/event by Szilage Gallery, in St. Peterburg, FL. During the one night of the event the Internet addresses for this site were projected in light on the stream bordering the site at 601 9th Street, St Petersburg, FL, USA. The URL’s are also molded into paving bricks placed in the red brick road that is the opposite property boundary parallel to the stream. While the projected light component existed only for a few hours, the bricks with the URL’s should be on location indefinitely, likely for many decades.

In a larger perspective this piece is the first installment of an ongoing project, www.h-e-r-e.com/beginning/middle/end.html. The project will be completed in thirty years. This 30 year framework is intended as an engagement with the “culture of the instantaneous” that has become a dominant mode of contemporary life. Over the decades “Beginning/Middle/End” will invent its own parameters.

At this time the following is expected:

- “Beginning/Middle/End” will engage a discourse centered around ideas of permanance and ephemera.
- “Beginning/Middle/End” will circle around and about possible associations with the three words, ‘beginning’, ‘middle’ and ‘end.’
- “Beginning/Middle/End” will involve images, objects, actions linked to specific geographic locations.
- These physical elements will include direction to Internet components.
